Method 1: Auto-Update Apps

This is the best way to update your Android apps if you don’t want to worry about updating your apps manually in the future. Auto-updating your apps is possibly the best method. Basically, this automatically checks for and installs updates whenever you are connected to the internet, meaning you won’t miss a single app update.

Step 1

Open the Google Play store app on your Android device.

Step 2

Hit the Menu key in the top right hand corner and tap on Settings.

Step 3

Click on Auto-update apps and make sure that the Auto-update apps at any time option is checked. Selecting this option updates your apps on any internet connection that is available. You can also select the Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only option. This automatically updates your apps when connected to a Wi-Fi network, meaning that data charges will not apply. That’s it! You can now sit back and forget about updating your apps as Google Play will automatically install any updates available.

Method 2: Manually Updating Apps

Manually updating is another way to keep your apps up to date through the Google Play store. The name might suggest that it is a hectic process, but this isn’t the case. Basically, this is the perfect method if you want to install only some of the app updates and avoid downloading large updates for apps that you don’t use that much. Also, this method lets you install all the updates at once, without going to every individual app and updating it.

Step 1

Open the Google Play store app on your Android device.

Step 2

Hit the Menu key and tap on My Apps. You will now be taken to the My Apps screen where all the installed apps on your device will be available. If app updates are available, you”ll find some apps under the Updates tab. If no updates are available, you’ll find your apps listed alphabetically.

Step 3

Now, you can either manually update the apps that you want to update by going to the app and clicking on the Update button or you can hit the Update (Number) button in the top right. The (Number) will show as the number of updates available, for example if five updates are available,  then it will show Update 5. When you press the button, all five apps will be updated.

Step 4

Some apps can only be updated manually and they appear under the Manual Updates tab. Here, you won’t find the Update (Number) button and you’ll have to go to each app and update it manually. Once all your updates are installed, you’ll find your apps listed alphabetically, without the option for updates.

Method 3: Updating Apps Through PC

Google has done a fantastic job with the Play Store, improving its features on a regular basis. However, Google has also added a feature of managing your apps through another device, meaning that you can manage your apps through your PC without using your phone.  Right now, you can use your computer to install, uninstall and update apps directly through the Google Play store website. Basically, the Play Store is synced on your PC and on your Android device through your Google ID.

Step 1

Open the Google Play website on your PC.

Step 2

Login to the Play store with your Google ID. Make sure that you use the same Google account that you use on your Android device.

Step 3

Once logged in, click on the My Apps button on the left. Here you’ll see all the apps installed on your Android device. If you have more than one phone using the same Google account, make sure that you select the right phone for installing the app updates.

Step 4

If no updates are available, you won’t see any update option and the apps will be listed alphabetically. If there are updates available, then you’ll see those apps listed first with an update button. Just tap on the Update button next to the app you want to update. That’s it! Your PC should now send the updates to your Android device, and it will automatically install apps whenever it is connected to the internet.

Conclusion

Ignoring app updates is silly since developers try to bring the best possible features to their apps. Not only does updating your apps resolve bugs, but it might also enhance performance for battery usage and RAM usage. Whether you have a lot of HD games on your device or if you only have a couple of apps, you can use any of the three methods mentioned above to keep your apps up to date.
