What’s Causing the Problem? Software or Hardware?
The issue above can be attributed to two things: software or hardware. If the problem is in the software, you can quickly solve it without having to leave the house to get help from a professional. However, the same can’t be said when it is a hardware problem. Some parts might need to get sourced out and replaced. But depending on the severity of the problem, you might just be able to fix the problem by yourself. Regardless, I have listed here the solutions that will come in handy for you!
Method 1: Turn your Volume up
Now, this might come as a shock, but most of the time, you can’t hear phone calls unless on speaker Android only because of a low call volume. And in some cases, zero volume! Before doing anything drastic, this should be the first thing that you should do –– increase your phone’s volume. Locate the volume which is usually located on the side of the phone. Tap the top button to increase the volume. Get the best results when you increase the volume while you are on the call. This will increase the call volume and not just the phone volume. If the volume buttons didn’t work for you, try another approach by following these steps: Step 1: Go to Settings and tap on the ‘Sounds and Notifications’ (the name may differ depending on the phone)Step 2: Head on to ‘Volumes’ then check the slider volume for ‘Call’Step 3: Slide the slider to the right to increase the volume
Method 2: Clean your Speaker and Earpiece Port
Did you know that the part where you place your ear during a call is a speaker? This speaker is located on the top part of your screen usually just under your front camera. This allows you to hear the person on the other end during phone calls. Now, this one is classified as a hardware issue. Over the years, it is possible that corners of your phone have accumulated debris, this place is one to get dirt stuck to. Trust me, more often than not, you will always find lint from your clothes (from inside your pockets) or even washed-up paper that has caused to clog up your speaker. The same is the case with your earpiece port or headphone jack port. This can also be clogged up with lint, dirt, and other debris. First, try cleaning it with a small tweezer. Very carefully pick out the dirt that is stuck in the area. Do not use anything sharp, it may just further damage your device. If you are unsure of doing it yourself, then you can seek out a professional to clean it for you. Read: 3-step guide to keeping your phone clean and virus free

Sometimes, cheap or non-standard cases can block the mic at the bottom of your phone as well as the speakers. This prevents your mic to transmit any data. Check the case you’re using if it is blocking the mic or speakers. And if it does, change it immediately! The key is to not have anything block your mic or speakers.
Method 5: Turn on/off Airplane Mode
If your device is experiencing a minor software issue, then this should take care of that. Turn off your Airplane Mode for about 5-10 seconds then turn it on again. This eliminates the minor bug that has probably been messing up with your calls. Also, if there is a network connectivity issue, toggling on/off the Airplane Mode solves that too!
Method 6: Update Software to the Latest Version
If your device is experiencing a software issue, the best thing to do is to update your software to its latest version. If you go on without having to update your phone’s software for too long, chances are, you will encounter issues with outdated firmware. Check your phone for updates, and if there are, install it to the latest version. Follow the steps below: Step 1: Go to Settings Step 2: Scroll down and tap on System Step 3: Select System Updates
Method 7: Turn off Bluetooth/Disconnect your Bluetooth Devices
If you are not using any Bluetooth earpiece then might as well turn off your Bluetooth. Also, disconnect your phone to other Bluetooth devices such as speakers and the car’s Bluetooth.
